Peaceful Mind

Anko Itosu passed the Pinan Katas to Gichen Funakoshi, who passed them on to Mas Oyama, who passed them on to Bobby Lowe, who passed them on to Thomas Young. Thomas Young asked James Mitose for permission to perform the Pinan Katas and maintain them within Kosho.

The Pinan Katas should teach the practitioner power, strength and stability. These forms also introduce the practitioner to kicks, structured blocks, double blocks, Kokutsu Dachi (Back Stance), Neko Dachi (Cat Stance), Juji Dachi (Cross Stance) and Ippon Dachi (One Legged Stance).
